Terms of use Copyright statement The ISO templates may be used free of charge for the development of ISO and ISO/IEC standards - no copyright applies. Use for any purpose other than identified above is forbidden unless permission has been received in writing from ISO. Requests should be sent to ISO copyright office Case postale 56 · CH-1211 Geneva 20 Tel. + 41 22 749 01 11 Fax + 41 22 734 10 79 E-mail copyright@iso.ch Web www.iso.ch Disclaimer Although the ISO templates and the associated files have undergone testing by several experts, there is no guarantee that all their elements are error-free. They are supplied "as-is" without warranty of any kind, either expressed or implied. No liability is assumed by ISO for incidental or consequential damage resulting from their use. These files were developed and tested using a number of word processors running under a number of operating systems (see "Use of ISO templates" below for more information). However, there is no guarantee that they will function on all platforms and all types of software, in all language versions. Should these files not function on your system, ISO is under no obligation to provide a solution. ISO makes no claim as to the absence of computer viruses in the delivered files or their support. As a result ISO recommends that all files and their support be examined by the end user using a virus check program. Use of ISO templates The ISO templates are available in two forms known as the STD template and the basic templates. The STD template is a wizard to be used with Microsoft Word 97 for the preparation of ISO and ISO/IEC normative-type documents (International Standards, Technical Reports and International Standardized Profiles). It automatically creates the cover sheet of these documents, their foreword, headers and footers, and inserts a style sheet to facilitate the creation of the rest of the document. The STD template replaces ISOSTD33, the ported version of ISOSTD30 to Word 97 which was distributed to a limited number of users for interim use before the release of the STD template. It allows the importation of files made with either ISOSTD30 or ISOSTD33. The STD template can be used with Microsoft Word 97, under Microsoft Windows 95 [OEM Service Release 2 (OSR2) recommended], Microsoft Windows 98 or Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 [Service Pack 3 (SP3) recommended]. It has not been tested with other versions of Word or other operating systems. It cannot function in non-VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) environments. The minimum hardware configuration is a PC-compatible computer equipped with at least a 133 MHz Pentium-type processor, at least 10 Mbyte of hard disk space free, a colour screen compliant with SVGA standard (minimum resolution: 800 x 600) and at least 16 Mbyte RAM (24 Mbyte or 32 Mbyte recommended). Note that to export files correctly to Word 6 format, it is necessary that the binary conversion filter to Word 6.0/95 format [converter delivered with Office 97 Service release 1 (SR-1), available from Microsoft Corporation] is installed; otherwise the files will be saved in RTF format. The basic templates (BASICEN2 and BASICFR2) may be used in all popular word processing systems. They are provided as both Word templates (files with the extension .DOT) and documents (files with the extension .RTF). If your word processor cannot open Word templates (.DOT), open the documents (.RTF) and save them as templates. The basic templates (BASICEN2.DOT and BASICFR2.DOT) need to be converted to your local environment. To effect this conversion, create a new document using the template, then close the document and click on "No" in response to the question "Do you want to save changes to DocumentN?", but click on "Yes" in response to the question "Do you want to save changes to [template name]?". These basic templates replace BASICEN and BASICFR which were distributed previously as part of the ISOSTD30 package. Installation procedure IMPORTANT If you are using Windows on a network, do not perform the installation yourself; ask your network administrator. The ISO templates are supplied as an automatic installation software. To install the templates, download the template installation software or insert diskette No. 1 or the CD-ROM in the appropriate drive, then click on the "Start" button on the taskbar and select "Run". Click on "Browse" and select the drive corresponding to the template support medium (floppy or CD-ROM reader) or the folder where the template installation software was downloaded. Select "ISOSTD.exe" if the template has been downloaded or "SETUP.EXE" in other cases and click on "Open". In the "Run" dialogue box, click on the "OK" button. Select the desired language for the setup instructions and click on the "OK" button. Read the terms of use and click on "Yes" or "No"; in the latter case, the installation will stop. If you have accepted the terms of use, check that the path indicated in the dialogue box corresponds to that where you want to save the templates. If you want a different location than that proposed by the installation software, or if no location is specified, click on "Browse" and specify the location where you want to save the templates. Click on the "OK" button to start the installation; follow the instructions given on the screen. Once the installation procedure has finished, the following user files will be saved at the specified location: BASICEN2.DOT Basic template, English (65 024 bytes) BASICFR2.DOT Basic template, French (68 608 bytes) BASICEN2.RTF Basic (template) document, English (111 035 bytes) BASICFR2.RTF Basic (template) document, French (117 095 bytes) STD.DOT Wizard (automated template) (2 768 896 bytes) README.TXT Terms of use, English (9 569 bytes), or LISEZMOI.TXT Terms of use, French (10 800 bytes) depending on the installation language chosen NOTE STD.DOT is not copied if the installation software does not detect the presence of Word 97. The reference manual for use of the STD template (in the language corresponding to the installation language chosen) will be saved in the location specified for Word documents (to determine this location, open a Word document, select "Tools", "Options", and the tab "File Locations"): REFMSTDE.DOC Reference manual for STD template, English (2 692 608 bytes) REFMSTDF.DOC Reference manual for STD template, French (1 096 704 bytes) Submission of technical queries Please include the following information when submitting a technical query. 1) Make, version and language of word processor and operating system (e.g. Windows 95, Windows NT4.0, etc.) used. 2) Version of the ISO template [in the STD template, displayed at the bottom of the second panel of the STD manager ("Doc Info" button); in the basic templates, displayed at the foot of the document cover sheet]. 3) Working context of the problem (e.g. "when opening a new document", "when applying style Subclause with title in an annex", etc.) 4) Precise error message, if any (normally in standard Message box), or description of the incorrect behaviour. 5) Critical level of the problem: level 1 - the template is unusable in its current state level 2 - the template is usable but the error is persistent and greatly affects the template's usability level 3 - the error appears only under certain conditions and is not critical for use of the template level 4 - suggestion that would facilitate use of the template Basic troubleshooting - STD template only In the case of problems using the STD template, please verify the following before reporting the problems. 1) Your Microsoft Word version is 97. 2) The STD.DOT file is in the folder specified for either the user or the workgroup templates and is not open. 3) You are using the correct version of the template. (In the "Tools" menu, select "Templates and Add-ins..." to see if your document is actually based on the STD template.) 4) No other Microsoft Word add-ins or global templates that may interfere with the STD template are currently loaded. (In the "Tools" menu, select "Templates and Add-ins..." and, if necessary, de-select the loaded items.) 5) Your equipment conforms to the minimum requirements for the use of the STD template: see "Use of ISO templates" above. If you are using a Microsoft Word version in a language other than English or French, try if possible to use the STD template with an English version of Microsoft Word. If you find that the problem is resolved, the problem is probably related to the language version of Microsoft Word that you use. In this case, please submit a technical query indicating the Microsoft Word version and language concerned, and save a copy of the problematic document as Text Only [to show the erroneous field(s)]; then return to the document, display the field codes ("Tools" menu, "Options...", "View" tab, check the "Field codes" box) and save another copy of the document as Text Only. Send the two text files via E-mail or on diskette to the ISO/CS technical contact specified above.
