Here are some highlights from the WG2 meeting in London.

The meeting was one of the busiest that I've seen - at the end
of the meeting there were over 150 documents in my binder. In 
a very efficient manner drafts for 15 different Amendments
were moved forward. Count on seeing all those ballots soon in L2.

The results are as follows (ordered by amendment number):

Mongolian - an agreement was reached for a final codeset. China and Mongolia
	were represented with experts who met with Ken Whistler and Michael
	Everson in an ad-hoc meeting to finalize this script. (new status: 	FPDAM) 

Tibetan - the Chinese did not bring a Tibetan expert and were not able to
	agree to anything in a binding way. The proposal was refined and 
	goes for PDAM next.

Additional characters - 66 addtional characters from various proposals
	were combined into a 'bucket' by an ad-hoc meeting with Michael, Joan,
Ken and others (the "bucket brigade"). This is now an FPDAM.

PDAM 14 Yi - China and Michael Everson were able to resolve the arrangement
	of the Yi code positions and  this will now go out as FPDAM.
 
PDAM 15 KangXi Radicals - these now run in two groups, the main set from
	2F00 and the extensions from 2E80 (PDAM is next).

FPDAM 17 CJK Vertical extensions - this progressed to DAM.

FPDAM 18 Symbols and Misc. Characters - there was a bit of a back and 
	forth over the Romanian characters. I worked with Mike Ksar, 
	M. Everson, Erkki K.	(the finnish delegate) and Mr. van Wingen
	to craft annotation text that was acceptable to all and the 
	latter, and reversed the negative 	ballot from the NL on PDAM. 
	(New status DAM)

FPDAM 21 on Sinhala - this sailed on to the DAM ballot, with a number of
	previously withdrawn characters restored.

PDAM 22 KBD Symbols - PDAM 22 was accepted with the revisions proposed 
	by UTC/L2 and now goes for FPFDAM

FPDAM 23 Bopomofo Extended and others - this progressed to DAM

PDAM 24 Thaana - Thaana is now FPDAM.

PDAM 25 Khmer - Maurice Bauhan, a Khmer expert, showed up, and progress 
	was made, so this now goes for FPDAM.

PDAM 26 Burmese - an agreement was reached with the delegation from Myanmar.
	Ken, Michael and Hugh Ross met with them in an ad-hoc meeting and
	were able to resolve the issues and finalize the script under
	its new name of Myanmar.

FPDAM 27 Syriac - a resolution was found for the 3 characters shared with
	Arabic and this now sails on to its final DAM ballot.

FPDAM 28 Ideographic Description Characters - These will now follow the 
	radicals from 2FF0. PDAM is the next stage.

Other issues:

Zones: The concept of zones was not very productive in 10646, and since it 
	is yet one more unnecessary difference between it and Unicode it was
	decided to take it out by editorial correction.

The L2 comments on how (not) to do a character set registrations were approved
	and will be forwarded

Next edition: I made a review copy prepared from the Unicode data base and 
	Unicode fonts available. I general it was well received. I got a few
	minor comments, plus Michael Everson promised me a whole list of 
	issues. He was busily preparing this while his screen melted.

The next WG2 meeting is now a week earlier than planned, in order to allow
	some people to attend both it and the Unicode Conference in Boston.

The editor announced that on reading the JTC1 directives, there is now some
	room to make (minor and non-controversial) changes even at FPDAM 
	ballot, as opposed to 'none'.
