L2/03-395 Guidelines for Internct connections at UTC Meetings It is often difficult for UTC delegates to be out of contact with their offices for the several days of a UTC meeting. Basic Internet connectivity is necessary in conjunction with UTC meetings. At minimum, the meeting room must be equipped with HTTP web access on port 80. There must be at least one physical connection in the room with such access. If at all possible, the meeting room should be equipped with an Ethernet hub allowing several simultaneous connections to the web via HTTP on port 80. Wireless internet access is acceptable only in _addition_ to wired access. It is imperative to have at least occasional access to the main Unicode server for document upload and maintenance at least once per day during the meeting, but the connection need not be full-time. The necessary protocol is either plain FTP on port 21 or secure FTP via SSH2 on port 22. Additionally, it is desirable to have the following in the meeting room (or nearby) for document maintenance and Unicode announcements, on a full or part-time basis: 1. SMTP outgoing on port 25 (to the Unicode server) 2. POP3 on port 110 3. SSH on port 22 (to the Unicode server) The preferred situation is where all delegates can have full-time access to the network with few or no restrictions on ports, and not be behind a corporate firewall. Some delegates wish to contact their corporate VPNs during the meeting.
