L2/04-063 From: Tom Gewecke Date: 2004-01-30 16:04:05 -0800 Subject: Re: Cuneiform at UTC I'm neither a cuneiformist nor a text-encoding expert, but I have been following closely the work of the group involved in encoding cuneiform, from the perspective of someone interested in developing web pages, fonts, and input methods for this script. I am very favorably impressed by the efforts of Mssrs. Everson, Tinney, and Feuerherm, as demonstrated by the proposals N2664 and N2698, to produce a highly professional, coherent, usable, and timely standard in this area, and I hope the UTC will approve it, the sooner the better. On the other hand, I cannot say the same about the ideas which have been put forward in the last couple weeks by Mr. Anderson. I find his criticisms of N2664/N2698 totally unconvincing, and his proposals seem disorganized, unconstructive, and often barely intelligible. I hope the UTC will reject them. Tom Gewecke
