L2/14-066 Representation of the Brahmi and Kannada Jihvamuliya/Upadhmaniya Characters in the Code Charts ================================================================================ Shriramana Sharma, jamadagni-at-gmail-dot-com, India 2014-Feb-07 It has already been demonstrated (see references below) that the Brahmi, Sharada and Kannada characters for Jihvamuliya and Upadhmaniya require special handling in rendering in that they go on top of the *following* consonant. In the charts, such characters requiring special handling in rendering are depicted using a dotted box. This helps developers of fonts and text shaping software to identify the special requirement of these characters. See for example 0D4E MALAYALAM LETTER DOT REPH. Under the present topic, for Sharada 111C2 and 111C3 SHARADA SIGN JIHVAMULIYA/UPADHMANIYA are depicted thus. However the corresponding Brahmi characters 11003 and 11004 are *not* thus depicted in the Brahmi chart. Nor are the Kannada characters 0CF1 and 0CF2. This should be corrected and these characters should be depicted using a dotted box. I had already requested this for Brahmi in L2/12-020 p 2 but apparently that was not attended to. Now I reiterate the request for Brahmi and also for Kannada.
