That is—now that we are on a regular yearly schedule—we should make the release number (for the yearly June releases) from now on just be 7.0, 8.0, 9.0, ... ( = year – 2007). If we ever need an intermediate maintenance release (eg 8.0.1), we can still do that, of course. This would make messaging simpler, both internally and externally: we just know that the 2015 release is 8.0, etc.
