L2/18-136 Tamil Shrii Conjunct: Comment on L2/18-054 Dr. N. Ganesan There is lot of confusion due to SHRII conjunct being created with SHA (U+0BB6) correctly, and in addition, with SA (U+0BB8) incorrectly. Ultimately this error in SHRII conjunct in Tamil block needs to be corrected in the Unicode Standard fonts and implementations, and in emails, web pages etc., in the future. There is a FAQ page, tech note for Tamil, a note saying that after a future date, or a future version of the UTS can be released by UTC. Then the only shrii conjunct will be, as per the original proposal which was accepted, In Unicode Named Sequences list, http://www.unicode.org/Public/UCD/latest/ucd/NamedSequences.txt TAMIL SYLLABLE SHRII; 0BB6 0BCD 0BB0 0BC0 For <0BB8 0BCD 0BB0 0BC0> sequences, this sequence has to be shown in those future web pages & emails, as <0BB8 0BCD 200C 0BB0 0BC0>. Whether the editor writes ZWNJ or not, <0BB8 0BCD 0BB0 0BC0> should be displayed as <0BB8 0BCD 200C 0BB0 0BC0> at least, say, from the year 2020 onwards. Unicode Standard should not propogate and perpetuate an error on such an important conjunct, SHRII in Tamil script. N.
