The article starts off with some weird statements:
Quote:
For 70 years, mathematicians have been stuck on the Halting Problem: Computers occasionally hang on one line of code and fail to move on to the next, and no one can reliably predict when that will happen. (The result is the unending hourglass or pinwheel of death.)
WTF? See Wikipedia:
Quote:
In computability theory, the halting problem is a decision problem which can be stated as follows: given a description of a program, decide whether the program finishes running or will run forever.
It's hardly "Computers occasionally hang on one line of code and fail to move on to the next". Jeez, they ought to have writers to know what they're talking about. The first comment to the article on Wired also points out that it's bogus.
I wouldn't use
this article as any basis for justifying any proposed new math characters. Wait for a real publication.
