The following question comes up occasionally:
What keeps Unicode from assigning codes to Microsoft's Webding and Wingding 1, 2, 3 fonts so they can be use them on web pages? The characters therein are not tied to any particular language, per se. ?

Debbie Anderson has someone at least looking at which of the wingdings/webdings could reasonably be said to be already encoded. E.g., as Emoji or whatever. I think Michael Everson has also at least looked at this issue.
