Abstract

An Overview of New Scripts in Unicode 3.0

With the advent of Unicode 3.0, several new scripts are added to the existing repertoire. After introducing 10 of the new scripts by showing each of them in a typical graphic setting, we will explore a select few of the following facets:

- History & derivation
- Look (graphic impression)
- Classication as alphabetic, syllabic, ideographic, etc.
- Relation to other scripts
- Behavior: notable characteristics, level of complexity, etc.
- Economic significance
