John Kovarik - National Security Agency

John Kovarik is the Senior Language Technology Authority within the Analysis and Production organization of the SIGINT Directorate, assuming his duties in June 2002. In this position he is responsible for establishing and implementing strategic policies and plans for introducing the latest language technologies in support of transforming language analysis across the enterprise. He served as Technical Director for Language Tools in the Office of China/Korea for the previous five years. He is particularly proud to have served as an adjunct Chinese language instructor at the National Cryptologic School, among his past endeavors. A master Chinese language analyst, he holds a BA in Chinese Language and Literature as well as an MA in Chinese Language and Linguistics from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. More recently he attended post graduate courses in computational linguistics at the Computer Science Graduate School of Johns Hopkins University and the University of Maryland Institute for Advanced Computer Studies as part of his Senior Technical Development Program (STDP). In his STDP, he studied to become the agency's senior expert in Chinese computational linguistics.
