While I oppose the modification of ASCII, as an academic exercise
I would suggest that \ at 5C would be the least risk position.
We already know of several countries that use this code point
for their currencies, and continue to function.

Having made that observation, I again add that it would be a
bad idea to change ASCII, and that their are less disruptive
proposals to handle the euro already being pursued within the
standards bodies.
