In answer to your question (courtesy of Julius Griffith)...

Actually, it depends on the OS, but generally the following is true:

- The IBM 5561 did not support Simplified Chinese, but some of the Japanese
kanji characters look the same as Simplified Chinese.

- Most likely, a Japanese version of DOS or OS/2 is being used, and most likely
the data is encoded in SHIFT-JIS, also known as IBM CP 932 and Microsoft CP 932.
