In German (mostly in primary schools), the quotation marks are termed
"Gänsefüßchen" which translates to "goose feet". Older pupils learn the
official term, "Anführungszeichen" which translates to "quotation marks".

Cassel's German-English Dictionary (1978), ISBN 0-02-522920-6, gives:
  Gänsefüßchen, n.pl. : inverted commas, quotation marks
and the English-German part says:
  quotation marks : Anführungsstriche, (coll.) Gänsefüßchen (pl.)
where "Striche" translates to "strokes" -- an almost obsolete term,
in this context.
