I've received a number of private retorts from Americans, concerning my
public remark in French below, to which the only response in English I can
offer is the following, said by my beloved compatriot GBS in 1933: "Even to
this day it is easier than it ought to be for me to get a rise out of an
American by telling him something about himself which is equally true about
every human being on the face of the globe..."
