Sigh. I don't work for or have any other connection with L-Soft, but
I am annoyed to see all this bashing of what is surely the best
mailing list software in the world. Listserv is not "ancient Bitnet
stuff" (most of it runs on NT and UNIX boxes), and it is absurd to
suggest that the likes of Majordomo even come close to providing the
functionality, usability, or reliability of Listserv.
L-Soft are acknowledged experts in mail delivery as well as list
management, and I feel quite safe in saying that with Listserv we
would never have been troubled by the recent unpleasantness from the
bureaucrats at mailmaster@culture.fr . Likewise, they are experts at
spam filtering - something that plagues most newsgroups these days.
Listserv offers a standard user interface that is very well known,
easy to learn, and even has a web interface for those who like to
manage their mailing list subscriptions that way. L-Soft will do
list hosting for a very reasonable fee, so it is not even necessary
to purchase and install software to enjoy all the benefits. And no,
it does not translate everything to EBCDIC and munge UTF-8
characters. :-)
Sorry to sound like a salesman; I really do not work for them or get
a commission or anything. It's just the best software for this
purpose.
