Has anybody tried the Aksharamala input system for
devanagari sold by http://www.aksharamala.com/ ?
It says: "Aksharamala is a standards-based software tool that
facilitates use of English QWERTY keyboards to input text
in Indian languages", but I am not sure what to think of
the text at
http://www.aksharamala.com/help/chm/ht_start.htm
in the frame "Limitations of the product" :

Typing too fast: Depending on your system performance
(processor speed, hard disk response etc.) it might some times
take longer for your input characters to be transliterated.
Occasionally, you might notice that the English (ASCII) characters
you type go un-transliterated. If you know for sure that those
characters are meant to be transliterated in the given context
then the cause can be that the system did not get a chance to let
Aksharamala handle them and sent the characters as-is to the target application. Please try typing them slowly to resolve this problem

Is this slow down effect something to be expected or
may it be a pointer to bad software?
I've also been looking at Tavultesoft's Keyman, but there are no
readymade keyboards available for the purpose. I don't know
how complicated it is to develop one.
On Microsoft's site I see an INSCRIPT- and a Hindi Traditional
Keyboard Layout, both not very "qwerty-phonetic".
Any recommendations for a 'phonetic' kb would
really be appreciated, but I guess there's little chance.
