The superscripts/subscripts are used in many books
when transliterating 'varga' consonants of other Indian
    languages into Tamil script.
So, they are very much needed for round-trip tranlsiterations.

I can load up examples from say, 10 books
    - transliterationg Sanskrit, Telugu, Kannada, Saurashtra, ...
and, these will contain examples - both subscripts and
superscripts in running texts in Tamil script.

An on-line example was mentioned here:
    http://www.prapatti.com/slokas/slokasbyname.html
Check out the cloumn "Tamil with numbered consonants"

Just like 0bb6 (sha) series (which is not yet available), entire abugida
    series with
subscripts and superscripts 2,3,4 is needed for Tamil letters
    k, c, T, t, p.
