    Yes, even within the France's french community, there are people who use
    a different translation table than the official one, just because it's
    the one of their device.

    Agreed.

    About the original issue that was raised (using unicode for coding
    braille patterns), it is not so much known indeed. But some products
    like BRLTTY are beginning to use it.
