    I've always favored John Cowan's explanation that the Phaistos disc is a
    board game.

    Actually, when you consider the checkers and chess pieces and shogi
    pieces and dominoes and mahjong tiles, the Unicode encoding of Phaistos
    might be on more solid ground if it is a board game than if it's an
    undeciphered writing system.
