No offense, but…
Strange? Why? You shouldn't expect an invalid page to work at all –
it's the tragedy of the web, that browsers are historically so
forgiving. People should have been forced to write strict code, like
in any other field of programming, and now the web would be a better
place.

Always use http://validator.w3.org or the HTML Tidy Firefox extension
(http://users.skynet.be/mgueury/mozilla/) during development.
