Because of the "partial buffer" issue, I wonder whether it wouldn't be
advisable to offer a separate function that takes lower case sigma to
final sigma based on full sentence context.
That way, you can make complicated substitutions and still be able to
fix up the full text afterwards in a separate pass.
There may be other "cleanup" operations that need / could be performed,
so perhaps this could be generalized to provide any number of these
operations in a canned form (not requiring users to provide their own
regexes for standard cleanups).
