How do you tell a chemist from the general populace? Ask them to
pronounce "unionized" (that is, is it "un-ion-ized" or "union-ized")?
Is 700-9000 pronounced "seven hundred minus nine thousand" or "seven
oh oh dash nine oh oh oh"? Which is part of the reason Unicode doesn't
try to handle this problem; there is a Unicode solution, where the
minus sign or the en-dash can be used, yet I and many others still use
the hyphen-minus. Separating these things have been a mess.
