1. Problem

The existence of the encoded characters U+0953 DEVANAGARI GRAVE ACCENT and U+0954 DEVANAGARI ACUTE ACCENT is questionable.

2. Discussion

At this point, it is believed that the grave and acute are only used when transcribing/transliterating to latin, in which case U+0300 COMBINING GRAVE ACCENT and U+0301 COMBINING ACUTE ACCENT should be used. There is no other known use of the Devanagari characters. (however, see problem P31, Musical notations)

At the same time, TDIL proposes to encode:

  pAD3 GUJARATI GRAVE ACCENT
   * used with Sanskrit text
  pAD4 GUJARATI ACUTE ACCENT

  pC53 TELUGU GRAVE ACCENT
  pC54 TELUGU ACUTE ACCENT

  pCD3 KANNADA DIACRITIC SIGN GURU-GRAVE
   * used above any character
  pCD4 KANNADA DIACRITIC SIGN LAGHU-ACUTE
   * used above any character
