L2/01-019 From: Arnold F. Winkler Date: January 5, 2001 Friends, NCITS is having good success with making JTC1 standards available in electronic form for very reasonable prices. A new initiative is to bundle families of standards onto one CD and sell them together. An L2 related example could be to bundle: ISO/IEC 10646-1:2000 - Universal Character Set, part 1, ISO/IEC 10646-2 - Universal Character Set, part 2, and ISO/IEC TR 15285 - Model for characters and glyphs; and possibly even ISO/IEC TR 11017 - Framework for Internationalization; ISO/IEC TR 10176 - Guide for the development of standards, and ISO/IEC 14651 - International string ordering on one CD-ROM This would allow implementers to get many of the relevant standards for I18N on one CD for one low price. L2 is requested to recommend a few of these "families" of related standards that would be sold together. Please think of reasonable combinations of standards (don't forget the 8-bit stuff either) and prepare contributions to the L2 meeting in Mountain View or send me e-mails with your suggestions. I will prepare a list of recommended "families" and submit them to NCITS for their consideration. Thanks for your support Arnold
