L2/03-015 The inaugural meetings of the new INCITS organization will be held February 10-14, 2003 in Boulder, Colorado. New members are invited to attend the inaugural meetings and have the benefit of attaining voting rights at the start of the meetings. The cost of membership on the new management bodies is based on a sliding scale. Membership Categories/Participation Cost The cost of membership on the Executive Board for the following categories includes membership on the Standards Development and Standards Policy Boards: Small Business (revenue less than $100M per year) $9,500 Large Business (revenue greater than $100M per year) $35,000 Government Agency $35,000 Minor Standards Development Organization/SDO (holds no SC TAG assignments) $8,000 Major Standards Development Organization/SDO (holds one or more SC TAG assignment(s)) $35,000 For the following membership categories, there are additional charges for participation on the Standards Development and Standards Policy Boards: Academic Institution $1,000 $1,000 - additional for membership on the Standards Development or the Standards Policy Board ($2,000 for both) User Group $10,000 $1,000 - additional for membership on the Standards Development or the Standards Policy Board ($2,000 for both) Consortia $10,000 $5,000 - additional for membership on the Standards Development or the Standards Policy Board ($10,000 for both) Advisory/Non-voting $7,500 $1,000 - additional for membership on the Standards Development or the Standards Policy Board ($2,000 for both) Structure of the New INCITS Organization A chart detailing the structure of the new organization is available on the INCITS website: http://www.incits.org/_transition/transition.htm Brief descriptions of the scopes of the INCITS Executive Board, Standards Development Board (SDB) and Standards Policy Board (SPB) are as follows: Executive Board The Executive Board is the INCITS Consensus Body and has the ultimate responsibility for all standards developed and approved by INCITS. It is responsible for ensuring accreditation, advancing the interests of the ICT sector and maintaining a viable, level playing field for furthering information technology. The Executive Board accepts recommendations from the Standards Development Board and the Standards Policy Board, which are responsible for the day-to-day operations of INCITS. Standards Development Board (SDB) The general responsibilities of the Standards Development Board are: * Create and promote internally developed standards (TCs, CTs) * Adopt and promote externally developed specifications * Enable collaboration with other SDOs and consortia * Create and agree to methodology for new work identification In addition, in the management of operations, the Standards Development Board will serve as an advisory committee to the Executive Board on new U.S. National and international standards development projects, standards requirements, and review of proposed standards. The Standards Development Board also manages the standardization process within INCITS Technical Committees (TCs). Standards Policy Board (SPB) The Standards Policy Board will address all policy matters related to the standards work of INCITS. This Board will make recommendations, for Executive Board approval, that affect INCITS' relationships with other SDO's, JTC 1, consortia, and the ICT industry in general. Such recommendations will always have a focus on policies to support improving the market relevance of INCITS.
