L2/04-057 From: Charles E. Jones Date: 2004-02-01 00:44:26 -0800 To: Rick McGowan Subject: Cuneiform Dear Rick McGowan, I am writing to express my support for the current version of a proposal to add cuneiform to Unicode as expressed in the document at: http://psd.museum.upenn.edu/n2698-cuneiform.pdf I have followed the discussion on the cuneiform@unicode mailing list fairly carefully, and have read the available documentation, including that produced by dissenting or minority opinions. I belive the proposal authored by Everon/Feuerherm/Tinnney has a great deal to offer to the field of cuneiform studies and I fully support it. For the record, I am the Librarian of the Oriental Institute at the University of Chicago; moderator of a number of e-lists focused on the Ancient Near East; editor of Abzu: Guide to Resources for the Study of the Ancient Near East Available on the Internet [http:///www.etana.org/Abzu]; Founding member of ETANA [http:///www.etana.org]; co-editor of the Oriental Institute's web-presence [http://www-oi.uchicago.edu]; member of the steering committee of Achemenet [http://www.achemenet.com]; and co-editor of the electronic corpus of the  texts from the Persepolis Fortification Tablets - a component of XSTAR [http://www-oi.uchicago.edu/OI/PROJ/XSTAR/XSTAR.html]. Each of these projects would benefit from a successful and timely resolution to this process.
