L2/04-420 November 18, 2004 Report of the Ideographic Variation Sequences ad-hoc The ad-hoc reviewed documents L2/04-219, "Registry for Ideographic Variation Sequences" and L2/04-336, "About the registry of Ideographic Variation Sequences", and discussed the following modifications/clarifications: For the description of the registry: - emphasize that the Consortium does not take any responsibility for the suitability, completeness, quality, etc. of the collections and sequences registered by third parties - emphasize that users should carefully evaluate whether a collection is suitable for their purpose - clarify that it is possible that the same intent be implemented in two different collections, i.e. that two collections can independently contain (distinct) sequences which serve the same purpose. For the format of the database: - collection identifiers and sequence identifiers must be Unicode identifiers as defined by UTS 31; furthermore they must contain only characters in the range U+0020 .. U+007F. For the registration of a collection: - the application must include a written statement that the registrant will make reasonable efforts to maintain the stability of the URL giving access to the description of the collection - the registration of a collection is subject to a non-refundable processing fee of $200. This processing fee is waived for the first 5 collections registered or sponsored by a Full member of the Consortium during a membership year. A sponsored registration is one done by any third party and for which the Consortium member pays the processing fee. - a registration form will be created, covering the items mentioned in L2/04-219, the items above, as well as additional questions: to ensure that the registrant understood the nature of the registry; to remind the registrant that a public review period is strongly encouraged, to ask whether this review did happen, and whether all the comments received have been addressed. For the registration of one or more sequences: - the registration of a sequence is subject to a non-refundable processing fee of $1. This fee is waived for the first 2,000 sequences registered or sponsored by a Full members of the Consortium during a membership year. A sponsored registration is one done by any third party and for which the Consortium member pays the processing fee. - the registration of sequences must include a suggested variation selector to use for the each sequence - registration of sequences must include a machine readable file, in the format of IVD_Sequences.txt, covering all the requested sequences ---
