L2/05-369 From: Felix Sasaki Re: W3C-Unicode Liaison Report Date: 2005-11-11 - Published "Web Services Internationalization (WS-I18N)" [1] as a First Public Working Draft. WS-I18N describes enhancements to SOAP messaging to provide internationalized and localized operation via locale and international preference negotiation. WS I18N also provides a general-purpose mechanism for associating a "locale policy" with messages. - Published "Working with Time Zones" [2] as a Working Group Note. This note reflects the discussion between the i18n Core Working Group and the XQuery / XSL Working Groups about XML Schema based, time related data type handling in XQuery. - Reviewed 12 specifications in Last Call. This encompasses for example the XQuery / XSL specifications or WSDL 2.0. For a full list of reviews, see [3]. - Published an updated working draft of "Character Model for the World Wide Web 1.0: Normalization" [4]. The main difference from previous versions of "charmod-norm" is that it no longer proposes to rely exclusively on Early Uniform Normalization. Current, ongoing and upcoming work: - Preparing a publication of "Language and Locale Identifiers". Main input to this will be the work of the "ltru" IETF working group [5]. - Starting within the W3C a discussion on IDN security issues. Currently involves Thomas Roessler (works on security, privacy, and European policy issues within the W3C) and Felix Sasaki. Under development: A W3C position on the ICANN guidelines. - IRI test suite development, possibly with contributions from Martin Duerst. - New member in the Working Group: Justsystem, who have a strong interest in the development of vertical text related specifications.
