L2/07-122 From: Kent Karlsson Sent: Sunday, April 22, 2007 1:30 AM Subject: Regarding ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 2 N3925 For consideration by the UTC and ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 2/OWG-SORT ------------------------------------------------------------- Regarding ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 2 N3925 ================================== (http://www.unicode.org/L2/L2007/07112-02n3925.pdf). ====================================================== Note that the problem attempted to be solved by a method suggested in ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 2 N 3925, has already been given a solution within the ISO/IEC 14651 framework, and that solution is given in ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 2/WG 2 N2715, http://std.dkuug.dk/jtc1/sc2/wg2/docs/n2715 (http://www.unicode.org/L2/L2004/04108-n2715-hangul.pdf), dated 2004-03-09. There is no need for a preprocessing pass for doing Hangul collation in a letter-by-letter fashion. The expansion to sequences of weights on a per letter basis can be done entirely within the mechanisms provided by ISO/IEC 14651 without recoursing to any prehandling of the input text strings. See N2715 for the details. I'd be happy to update/revise that document if needed. /Kent Karlsson
