L2/07-338 From: Mark Davis Date: 2007-10-05 10:00:21 -0700 Subject: UCD.html as a UAX ======== For historical reasons, much of the description and documentation of Unicode Properties and the Unicode Character Database is not actually in the book or in UAXes. It is, instead, in files that were originally ReadMe files in the data directories, such as http://www.unicode.org/Public/UNIDATA/UCD.html. This is a problem -- people often don't realize that this file exists or that this vital information is in fact part of the standard; moreover, since the file doesn't have the same kind of prominence, it doesn't get the same treatment as the other documentation in terms of public review and exposure during development. The editorial committee is proposing that we move towards having this information in a regular UAX. Because of the relatively short time frame remaining in Unicode 5.1, this would take the form of having a "stub" UAX that provides a summary and points to the pieces that exist in the data directories. Over time, other documents and places on the website would be changed to point to this new UAX, and material from the data directories would be folded into it. -- Mark
