L2/09-398 Source: Naga Ganesan / INFITT Subject: Tamil fractions - Comment on L2/09-376 ----------------------------------------------------- We, at the Working Group on International Forum for Information Technology in Tamil (http://infitt.org), are working on a proposal to encode the archaic Tamil fractions (there are about 30 of them) in the Supplementary Multilingual Plane (SMP) of the Unicode. The proposal will soon be submitted to UTC for consideration to encode all Tamil fractions together a block in the SMP. The Tamil fractions are very archaic and not used in contemporary Tamil writings, and are best to be encoded all in a single Tamil Extensions block in the SMP in ascending order. Hence, INFITT Unicode Group requests UTC not to encode just 3 of many available Tamil fractions in the BMP as mentioned in L2/09-376, but requests to reserve a separate Tamil Extensions block for the archaic Tamil fractions and various archaic signs. Thanks. Naga Ganesan for INFITT (http://infitt.org) working group on Tamil Unicode
