Quechua and Community-Led Transcreation
This session will share insights from Mathias Becerra-Sanchez’s fieldwork in rural Peru, where he has been collaborating with Quechua-speaking communities to create a glossary of suffixes for regional Quechua dialects. This work is part of a broader investigation into how language communities around the world engage in transcreation—the cultural and linguistic adaptation process essential for effective language digitization. Drawing from on-the-ground interviews and lived experience, Mathias will highlight both the challenges and opportunities in bridging linguistic and technological divides. Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of how digital inclusion efforts can be grounded in community-led practices, and will be invited to consider how these approaches could be applied to other marginalized languages worldwide.
