Biography

In 1996, Kamal Mansour joined Monotype Typography's development office in Palo Alto, California, as Manager of Non-Latin Products. Over the past few years, Kamal has played a central role in several projects involving large, Unicode-based fonts. In the past, Kamal has done a variety of software work including multilingual keyboard input, compiler development, CAD-related programs, as well as system support. More recently, he ran Kappa Type, a firm which specialized in high-quality fonts for lesser served languages. An early multilingual education in Cairo, Egypt, served only to stimulate Kamal's curiosity about languages, writing systems, etymology, and typography. Kamal holds an MS in Computer Science, as well as a Diploma in Product Design. When he is not playing with his two young children, he can often be caught looking up strange words in dictionaries.
