Abstract

Helping Users Navigate to the Right Localised Web Site

Richard Ishida - Xerox

Intended Audience: Manager, Marketer, Web Designer
Session Level: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced

If you have developed alternative websites or pages for people from different countries or people speaking other languages, you need to ensure that your visitors end up at the right localised site or page as quickly and naturally as possible. It is not hard to find web sites that show a significant bias towards English speakers and North Americans, even when alternative localised sites exist. This paper makes suggestions around how you can help readers from other cultures arrive at the appropriate pages without feeling like they are being treated as an afterthought.
