Biography

Shalini Urs - University of Mysore

Dr. Shalini R. Urs is professor at the Department of Library and Information Science, University of Mysore, Mysore, India and directs the Vidyanidhi: Indian Digital Library of Electronic Theses and Dissertations, http://www.Vidyanidhi.org.in, project sponsored by the National Information System for Science and Technology, DSIR, Govt. of India. She is spearheading the digital library movement in India through several initiatives and by bringing and successfully organizing the 4th International Conference of Asian Digital Libraries (ICADL 2001) during December 10-12, 2001 at Bangalore, India, as Chair. Her areas of interest include Electronic Theses and Dissertations (ETDs), Metadata, and Multilingual and Multi-script materials and databases. She serves on the Executive Board and the Steering Committee of the Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (NDLTD)- a global initiative based at Virginia Tech, USA and directed by Prof. Ed Fox. She served as coordinator of the UNESCO International Guide for ETDs- a project sponsored by UNESCO. As Fulbright Scholar she was a visiting faculty at the Virginia Tech, USA during 2000-2001.She has coauthored with Edward Fox a review paper on ‘Digital Libraries’ published in the Annual Review of Information Science and Technology, edited by Blaise Cronin volume 36,2002 published by ASIS&T.
