Abstract

Completing Unicode 3.2 Support in Free Software

The author has been raising funds and organizing a project to finish the needed fonts and rendering software for full support of Unicode 3.2. At the beginning of this project, most of the work remaining concerned Asian writing scripts with complex joining behavior. This session will present a progress report, with demonstrations, explaining the business case, the work plan, technical issues and solutions, currently available fonts and software including Pango and SIL Graphite, and remaining tasks, including extensions in Unicode 4.0.
