You are perhaps referring to san1-fan2-shi4 (Cantonese saam1-faan4-si5)
U+4E09 U+85E9 U+5E02, which I see used on the local Cantonese newscasts.
It manages to be close in sound in several dialects, including sam1-fan1-si5
in Hakka.
