I concur.
I've no idea if it will be of interest, but I have an old
(1998-01-03) paper, "Features of the world's scripts" at
http://www.evertype.com/standards/iso15924/document/n02.html. In that
contribution I used the following terms: alphabetic, consonantal
(i.e. abjad), syllabic (which included the abugidas and the true
syllabaries), ideographic, and mixed (cuneiform and hieroglyphic).
Perhaps I should revisit that document and update it.
