John Hudson has written an insightful proposal covering the rôle
of the ZWJ character for ligature control in OpenType.
The proposal appears to be workable and preserves options for
the various schools of thought on the subject of ligature formation.
Ultimately, default text processing behaviour will be determined
on a case-by-case basis by the various applications. Hopefully,
everyone will be able to choose applications which meet their needs.
