    In which case writing "k ~ ø-" is probably misleading.

    U+2205 (EMPTY SET) is at least unambiguous, and I'm not sure that there is any
    intrinsic reason why using a mathematical operator for this purpose is any less
    appropriate than using a vowel letter.
