The Thesaurus Linguae Graecae, based at the University of
California/Irvine, has been working on the issue of additional
characters needed for classics, particularly Greek. TLG made a proposal
for metrical symbols which was approved by the UTC last November; see
http://www.tlg.uci.edu/final/metricalsymbolsbrief.pdf and also
http://www.unicode.org/alloc/Pipeline.html (look for "metrical
symbols"). The metrical long is represented as U+2013 while a new
metrical breve has been established at U+2692.
