     Well, Vim(Vi Improved : http://www.vim.org) supports Ctrl-v + 'u' + 'hhhh'
    sequence for BMP Unicode character input. I use the feature very often.
    Most editors supporting Unicode rather well have similar 'escape'
    sequences.
