Some interesting points in this discussion but in the end I'm wondering again about the Optimus keyboard which in theory means that no keyboard layout will be written in plastic again. A difficult keyboard layout will be easily changed and new ones tested readily with the arrangements immediately visible. Or Conal, Donal and Taig can each happily have their own layouts and so on. From the point of view of accommodating new computer users (who will definitely look at the keys) and languages with extended orthographies, it will be especially useful.

Supposedly this keyboard should be released by the end of this year, but judging by the price on a smaller version, it might have a steep pricetag. See http://www.artlebedev.com/everything/optimus/ & http://store.artlebedev.com/catalog/computer_add-ons/
