dbms'es and unicode support

Hi,

Which dbms vendors support fetch, update and insert using
unicode char strings? This interaction would be between
a C program and some vendor-API (embedded SQL or runtime library).

In a more general sense, can someone give an overview of
which DBMSs support unicode and how do they support unicode
in their APIs?
