I hope this is not off topic here, but since we have been discussing so many
i18n issues including "metric time," I am assuming it is acceptable:
Can someone tell me if there is an international standard declaring what the
first day of the week is? In my home country (Slovakia), I grew up with the
understanding that every week started on Monday and ended on Sunday. This seems
to be the common "standard" in all countries that used to be part of the
Austro-Hungarian Empire.
In the US, all calendars state that Sunday is the first day and Saturday the
last. The "tm" structure of the C language follows this assumption as well.
Does ISO say anything about this? If not, is there a most commonly used system
for determining the first day of the week in "most of the world"?
