Gregg was making a very obscure (and probably ill-advised)
reference to the recent loss of the Mars Climate Observer
(the one a couple months ago -- not the equally ill-fated
Mars Polar Lander just a couple weeks ago). The Mars Climate
Observer burned up in the Martian atmosphere due to an uncorrected
navigational error that resulted from a failure to convert between
metric units (newtons) and U.S. units (pound-feet) for a course
correction. The analogy is to failing to recognize and convert
currencies correctly -- as Mark Davis pointed out as a danger
for the currency sign U+00A4.
