For those who like to keep up on such things, there have been recent
changes to the code lists of two important standards related to
internationalization -- ISO 639 (language codes) and ISO 3166-2 (codes
for country subdivisions).

Two languages have been added to the ISO 639 arsenal: Limburgish
(alpha-2 code "li", alpha-3 code "lim") and Neapolitan (alpha-3 code
"nap"). The ISO 639 registration authority has continued its recent
practice of providing multiple language names, offering "Limburger" and
"Limburgan" as alternatives to "Limburgish."

The ISO 639 registration authority is located at
<http://lcweb.loc.gov/standards/iso639-2/>.

ISO 3166-2 was amended this week to add entries for 13 districts of East
Timor and six new districts of Uganda. In addition, the Palestinian
Authority got a new entry and the country code for East Timor was
changed (both in keeping with ISO 3166-1 updates), and a few spelling
and duplication errors were corrected.

The ISO 3166 Maintenance Agency is located at
