            Better yet, have a generic mechanism which allows you to build an
    array with a default color, then specify colors on a per-codepoint basis.
    This would permit all of the suggested examples to be done, to user taste,
    without breaking any combining sequences. Everybody wins! OK, who's
    writing the proposal? <grin>
