    Well, presuming that that is referring to the logical difficulties
    of bidirectional text layout and not to the logical difficulties
    of barroom brawling, you could start with:

    and follow various links from that very good general presentation
    by Richard Ishida.

    Those aren't "compendia" of proposed solutions, but they do
    represent current best practice at the plain text level and in markup,
    respectively.
